Guided Dog Walks Saturday, June 1st, July 6th and August 3rd 10:00 am — 11:00 am Bring your best friend and join us for a guided dog walk at the park! This guided walk is great for socialization and healthy exercise! Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Current license or proof of rabies vaccination required. Aggressive dogs will not be allowed to participate. $5/dog. Proceeds benefit Volunteers for Animals. Meet at Interpretive Center. 

WNY PRISM Volunteer Workday Saturday, June 29th | 9:30 am —12 pm Join WNY PRISM, partners, and community members like you to help remove a priority invasive plant species, Slender false brome, from the Genesee County Park & Forest! Free Family Fishing Day at DeWitt Recreation Area Saturday, June 29th | 10 am – 1:00 pm In partnership with the Oakfield-Alabama Lions Club, join the Genesee County Parks and try out fishing! Perfect for beginners! Program meets at Pavilion 3. Friendly guides will be on hand to assist you. No fishing license required. This is part of NYSDEC’s Free Fishing Weekend! Fishing gear provided to borrow or bring your own. Kids up to age 16 can join the fun and get the chance to win a prize. This program is FREE!

New Moon Stargazing Walk Friday, July 5th | 8:30 pm — 10:00 pm Explore the forest at night and enjoy the darkness and stars that accompany the New Moon. We’ll watch for fireflies, listen for owls, and hear katydids chirping. A short, easy paced walk along the trails will be followed by the chance to view stars through a telescope! Participants are welcome to bring camp chairs for the stargazing portion of the program. $5/person, $10/family. Meet at Interpretive Center.

Diving Deep into Black Creek Saturday, July 6th | 2 – 4 pm Did you know that Black Creek begins here at the Genesee County Park & Forest? We can help keep the Creek healthy as it makes its journey all of the way to the Genesee River! Join us for a hands-on creek study. Together, we’ll test important Creek health parameters like species diversity, temperature and turbidity. Program best suited for ages 10 and up. Nets, waders, and other equipment will be available to borrow. $5/person, $10/family. Meet at Pavilion G.

Environmental Science Summer Camp Monday, July 15th – Friday, July 19th 9:00 am — 4:00 pm each day Download registration form at http://www.co.genesee.ny.us/departments/parks/ eventsprograms.html At Environmental Science Summer Camp, students explore different topics of Environmental Science with outdoor activities guided by professionals. This week-long adventure includes wildlife surveys, field and stream studies, outdoor recreation, a field trip, and more! Registration Deadline: July 8th For students entering 7th – 10th grades Transportation available from Batavia High School $95/camper, all materials and a camp t-shirt provided

Camp Hard Hat Monday, July 29th – Friday, August 2nd | 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Learn about careers in construction and build a community project! Instructed by certified teachers and GVEP Building Trades instructors. $95/Camper- Includes a camp t-shirt and water bottle. Scholarships are available. Open to students entering grades 8-10. Kayaking at DeWitt Recreation Area Saturday, August 10th Session 1: 10:00 am–12:00 pm Session 2: 1:00 pm-3:00 pm Seize the day with a guided kayak tour of DeWitt Lake! Explore the lake by water and discover a new world. Meet at the boat launch at DeWitt Recreation Area. No experience needed, lesson provided! Kayak rentals with life vests are provided. Ages 12 and up. Guided tour fee is $15/person w/o rental, $25/person w/ rental.

Painting in the Park at DeWitt Recreation Area Saturday, August 17th | 10 am – 12:30 pm In partnership with Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, join us for a nature art program at the DeWitt Recreation Area! Join Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge Urban Community Engagement Fellow, Stephanie Ibarra, to learn the basics of painting in nature! Together, we’ll paint a scene inspired by our natural surroundings at the park. Beginners welcome. Materials will be provided! Space is limited – registration required. This program is FREE. Meet at Pavilion 2.

Music in the Park at DeWitt Recreation Area Satuday, August 3rd | 6:30 pm — 8 pm Enjoy a summer night with a free concert featuring the Batavia Swing Band/Combo! Meet us at Pavilion 2, bring a lawn chair and your favorite people! First come, first served seating at picnic tables. This concert is FREE! Made possible by generous funding by the Association for the Conservation of Recreational and Natural Spaces (ACORNS).
