The goal of the ACORNS Outdoor Learning Center is to provide an outdoor classroom where students can discover nature and the environment in a hands-on, experiential manner. The OLC is designed to showcase the natural environment and help people to understand the ecology of our natural resources and their interrelationship with humans. As they gain skills and knowledge about the environment, students learn to make decisions that affect use and management of natural resources. The wildlife observation area offers a close-up view of a pollinator garden, 2 bird feeding stations, bluebird nest boxes and beehives farther out in the field. The Discovery Trail offers a short walk through a former Red Pine plantation, which is now grown into a wooded area with many kinds of trees and plants that wildlife have come to enjoy. The ACORNS OLC is the perfect place to play and to sit and relax and enjoy nature, and find surprises every day. Turn over a rock, look on the underside of a bench, watch the wildflowers for visitors, peer into the tall grass, or just be observant and notice something out of place. You never know what you'll find in the OLC!
