Situated between the Interpretive Nature Center and the Outdoor Learning Center is our gazebo. You will often see visitors to the Park relaxing, socializing, and enjoying this wonderful space. It is sometimes used for meetings and small celebrations, often accompanied by hummingbirds buzzing about during the summer. For some background on our structure we asked Pete Stanbridge to tell us how it came to be -
In May of 2016, the Amish Outlet Store, delivered a
12’ Octagon Gazebo to Genesee County Park and Forest, in memory of
Susan Stanbridge. Sue had passed away in 2015 after a fourteen month
battle with lung cancer.Sue was a regular hiker at GCP along with her
Husband and first with her Yellow lab Murphy and then with Chance a
Golden Retriever. The Park played a great part in her life.Even after her
Diagnosis she still walked the trails frequently sometimes even after
Medical treatments.
It only seemed natural, after her passing, to place some tribute to her at
A place she loved and enjoyed so much. A Gazebo where people and pets
Can sit a while and enjoy the Park. Please spend some time at the Gazebo
And see the names of the Cats and Dogs that we’re so loved by Sue during
Her life. If you’re lucky you might even get to meet Chance who still walks
At GCP almost every day.
Many thanks from Sue’s family to Park Supervisor Paul Osborn who made
The donation of the Gazebo a seamless and rewarding process. It is in the
Perfect setting!
